Kyoko Ishida

Dr. Kyoko Ishida was recently appointed to the faculty of Waseda University, after serving as a Research Associate at Waseda University Institute of Comparative Law since 2007. Dr. Ishida specializes in Sociology of Law and her main areas of research are the legal profession system and attorney ethics.

Dr. Ishida is active in several legal sociology research projects in Japan and is developing ground-breaking follow-on research in the areas of access to justice. She has been researching a topic with the funding of the Science Research Grant, titled Ethics and Responsibility of Legal Professionals Involved in Access to Justice – Comparative Study of Japanese and American Systems. Focusing on a qualitative survey, Dr. Ishida is conducting a comparative study of ethical issues faced by Japanese and American legal professionals who are working on improving access to justice.
