Dr. Desphande is a Professor of Economics at the Delhi School of Economics. Her teaching expertise is in the areas of macroeconomics, economic development and policy, Economics of Discrimination, Comparative Economic Development in historical perspective and Issues in Labor history. Her research interests are in the areas of Economics of Discrimination, with a focus on caste and gender in India, inequalities and group disparities, and aspects of the Chinese economy and International debt.
She received the EXIM Bank award for outstanding dissertation in the area of international trade and related issues for 1994.
