Abstract: |
This article analyzes the measures and reforms the affected countries have taken to put their banking in order after the outbreak of the Asian Financial Crisis. It points out that the important factors, which caused the banking problems, are the important government intervention, the over-expansion in asset scale, the irrational structure of assects and liabilities, the limited ability of internal control and bad-debt recognition. The present article holds that such measures as intervening in foreign exchange market, raising bad-debt provision and asking for international support can have both positive and negative effects. China could draw experiences as well as lessons from it, such as complying with the market mechanism while dealing with the problems in banking; forming a certain scale for banks, increasing transparency in banking, establishing deposit insurance system, setting up financial holding companies, introducing more competition into financial industries, etc. |
