| Abstract: |
Human rights protection & laws regarding gays & lesbians in Australia & Canada are compared on a national, regional, & local level, with a focus on state & provincial human rights laws in Sydney, Australia, & Toronto, Ontario. It is suggested that Sydney’s gay & lesbian community has been more successful due to its political relationship with New South Wales authorities. Current issues in gay & lesbian rights in Australia & Canada are explored, & political opposition to gay rights from right-wing forces is discussed. It is suggested that Sydney may serve as an example of human rights protection for gays, lesbians, & other minorities in Australia, Canada, & elsewhere. |
