This article deals with two ethnically distinct groups of people in Japan: 1) the Ainu people, who are Japanese in terms of nationality, but require special indigenous rights that are not given to other nationals, and 2) resident Koreans who do not have Japanese nationality but demand constitutional rights traditionally reserved to nationals. This article includes a history of laws concerning the Ainu, and the legal status and constitutional rights of foreigner in general, with particular attention to resident Koreans |
